Back to the Verdi Requiem Auditorium. Now has become - like the of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony - one of the cornerstones of the repertoire of the Orchestra and Chorus. Xian Zhang is now directly to assume it, studying, filing, perfecting the performance, even with audio experiments of nature ....
appeared last season was the ' Octobasse (the jumbo-bass) to enrich the background sound of the strings; year Zhang has devised a new, special arrangement of the orchestra (also already tested last week with the First Brahms): all the basses in the front row, to make wall (sound) partition between the choir and the rest of the orchestra , brass, all grouped on the right, the proscenium violas, timpani and bass drum to the floor, far left.
really hard to judge the different sonic results, after 15 months, but already it seems to me significant in itself a clear desire and aptitude for research , as opposed to living annuity ( which also would not be sentenced in this case).
The soloists were the veteran (the Auditorium and the Requiem) Maria José Montiel, flawless even yesterday (his Lux aeterna in particular); Serena Daolio for me a pleasant surprise , nice voice and quite robust, remarkable technique and acute (the OD Libera me fantastic) clean. Bravo also Luc Robert, vocals maybe not big, but pleasant tone and good expression. A note (but it's my personal taste) Alexei Tanovitski bass, vocals that go eventually swallow too.
But all along Chorus all'irreprensibile of Garbarini, have paid it deserved triumph in the end by an audience of really great opportunities .
