La peculiarità di Rendering consiste nel singolare approccio con il quale Berio ha affrontato l'impresa di portare alla luce la sinfonia. A differenza di Newbould, che si è messo nei panni di Schubert e ha prodotto un lavoro compiuto, ma ovviamente apocrifo (un po' come il suo compatriota Derick Cooke si comportò con un'altra Decima , quella di Mahler) Berio ha invece evitato di comporre à la Schubert , ed ha riempito i tasselli mancanti al mosaico del manoscritto originale con proprie e perfettamente distinguibili tessere (in cui c'è del materiale schubertiano) che di volta in volta sfumano da Schubert verso Berio (atonalità, dissonance, the sound of the celesta ) and vice versa.
